In recent times the National Board of Revenue has taken a number of initiatives to establish a
                    taxpayer friendly modern customs, excise and VAT administration. Some of those initiatives
                    are as follows:

                       •  VAT and SD Act, 2012 and VAT and SD Rules, 2016

                              •  The new laws and rules will be effective from 1 July, 2019.

                              •  Online  Registration System was launched  in  last fiscal year  and VAT
                                 registration process came in the fingertips of taxpayers.  Now, taxpayer do not
                                 need to go to VAT office and submit any hard copy document to get the VAT
                                 registration.

                              •  Online  Return Submission and  Payment  are going  to  be launched from  1
                                 January 2018.  Then the taxpayers will not be required to go to VAT office for
                                 their business  activities and that  will  lead a big  jump in  quality of service
                                 delivery. It is expected  that these phase shifts will have positive impact for
                                 Bangladesh in uplifitg the positions in Doing Business Index 2019 and 2020.
                              •  There will be no requirement for the advanced treasury deposits.


                              •  It will  establish a business friendly, uniform  legal framework to enhance
                                 compliance and revenue collection.



                       •  VAT Online Project

                              •  To implement the VAT and SD Act, 2012 and VAT and SD Rules, 2016, the
                                 Officials of VAT online Project are putting their relentless effort. The slogan
                                 of VAT Online Project is


                                         “ভয্াট িদন aনলাiেন           “Revenue will increase by depositing
                                                                                 VAT online”
                                        রাজs বাড়েব ব  েণ”


                              •  VAT Online Contact Centre: The helpline no 16555 has been inaugurated and
                                 gained much popularity. Millions of taxpayers are
                                 getting services from this contact centre.  So far,
                                 about  10 million calls have  been  received  and
                                 answered.  Now the call  centre agents  give
                                 support on  issues regarding both  new  and old
                                 acts. Moreover, NBR is making outbound call to
                                 taxpayers for  correcting  errors in registration
                                 data, to remind them to submit return in time and any other issues. 164 call
                                 centres are already in operation all over the country.
