• Reaching a rank below 100 in Doing Business Index:

• In Doing Business Index 2018, Bangladesh secured the position of 177 out of
186 while the position secured by our Tax Administration was 152. Though it
looks better compared to other parameters of Bangladesh, it is quite
unacceptable from global business perspective. The NBR took a stand to
improve our position in near future and sets a target to achieve a two digit rank
by the year 2020. To reach this ambitious target the NBR has taken various
reform initiatives like VAT Online Project for total automation, administrative
& legal reforms, ASYCUDA World project to digitize customs procedures,
National Single Window (NSW) project to bring all stakeholders related to
import and export to a single window service system to ease up the business,
Bond Automation Project to improve the Customs Bonded Warehouse
management, BiTax project to digitize the income tax process etc.

To establish a taxpayer friendly, compliant customs and VAT administration the National
Board of Revenue has adapted a set of Modern Management Practices as follows:
